Jan'ren was raised far from Kalaram, to the west in the Shilmista, the forest of Shadows. Even as a young elf she was trained in the ways of rangers, learning to track through the shadows of the forest, to see the hidden signs and follow paths others would miss. Her keen sight only enhanced the practiced aim of her bow. Taking lithe steps through the forest, finding ambush spots, and waiting were her forte. Even if she had to spend days sitting still in a tree for the chance of her prey to walk beneath her she would do so silently and without complaint. 

Her stoic attitude gave her a reputation as cold and aloof even within her small community. Even though she was slightly distanced from her fellow elves, they were her family and she would have gladly given her life to protect them. Unfortunately, while she was away tracking down a trapper who wandered into their woods, a plague of undead swept through Shilmista, devestating her tribe and scattering the elves out of the forest. 

Jan'ren spent three years within the forest surrounded by undead, hunting and taking her revenge until she found it was a lost cause, with only so much she could do by herself she left the forest, spreading the word to nearby settlements and townships. Following the whispers of a undead plague in the far off land of Kalaram, Jan'ren stalked her way towards the land, arriving at the height of the tragedy, hoping to lend her hand at destroying the menace.
