Name: Yvonne Harper
Race: Human
Starting Class : Ranger
Level 2 Class : Wizard
Profession : Alchemist
Age: 23
Height: 5’6”
Weight: 125 lbs.
This young woman's neatly-kept auburn hair flows behind her as she walks. Though average in both height and girth, she moves with the grace of a practiced dancer. Although her smile is nothing special, it is almost always present on the face of this once joyful young ranger.
The most noticeable feature of this young woman is the overall motiff of her clothing. There are small red patches, in the shape of apples, sewn into the sleeves of her tunics and robes. Her belt buckle is the shape of an apple as well, and where a normal adventurer might carry wands or potions at their side, this young woman has apple-shaped containers. Over the past few years, however, these patches have begun to become worn and many are ripped.
A wide variety of odd smells permeate from her overstuffed pack, and long rolls of parchment can clearly be seen protruding from the top of it. She also carries a large tome, the front cover depicting, perhaps unsurprisingly, an red apple.
Biography of Yvonne Harper AKA Apple
Yvonne Harper was born in a small farming village in the Empire of Siranda, the daughter of the local tavern-owners. Growing up she was expected to do many chores in the stables and gained an appreciation for caring for the horses there. She also helped her parents operate the still, brewing their own liquor to please their few customers. Visitors would regal her with stories of their adventures and their time in the big cities. A simple smalltown girl, she was always fascinated by what she didn’t understand – gadgets, magic, and adventure.
On her 16th birthday, Yvonne found employment as an Imperial Cartographer, working out of an office in Kalaram. All Yvonne had to do was roam the countryside on her horse, draw maps, and get paid for it. She loved her job. She also had plenty of downtime between assignments, which she used to tinker with brewing apparatus and methods. She became obsessed with creating things and the mysterious art of “alchemy”. Saving up just enough to enter the Mage’s College, she quit her cartography job to devote her time to the study of magic. Unlike most wizards, however, Yvonne never cared much for casting flashy evocations, focusing all her study on how magic could be bottled and traded.
Just as she began to master spells of the first-circle, the simplest of incantations, the zombie outbreak disrupted her studies and she was forced to survive on the street with everyone else. Her inherent knowledge of the wilderness gained from her years as a cartographer aided her in hiding from the zombies that plagued the land. When she was unfortunate enough to be found, a quick casting of Expeditious Retreat was usually enough to get to relative safety. Through the tried and true method of running and hiding, this wannabe-alchemist and apple aficionado survived the zombie apocalypse…until now…
An Apple A Day - A Day in the Life of Yvonne Harper Pre-Zombie Apocalypse
'Ugh, not another boring lecture on enchantments,' the young ranger thought to herself, sitting in a crowded hall of the Kalaram Mage's College. The instructor droned on and on about the practical applications of using enchantments to control your enemies, but also on the moral implications of taking someone's free will by controlling their mind. Yvonne was nearly falling asleep. It's not that she didn't appreciate the moral quandaries of enchantments, but that she simply didn't care for most of the school itself. Spellcraft, in Yvonne's mind, was meant to be made available to the masses through potions and gadgets - thus leading to a new age of prosperity. She dozed off until she heard the familiar sound of the mage's alarm that signified the end of class. With impressive agility, she sprung from her seat and ran off towards the alchemy lab.
"You're not supposed to be in here, Apple. Go home!" the wizened old alchemy instructor scolded Yvonne. She spent most of her free time in the alchemy lab, bothering the instructor and seeing what little she could pick up from his routine experiments. He would always tell her to go, but never really do anything about it. She suspected he liked the presence of an energetic young student in his otherwise dungeon-like lab. Today, the subject of research was healing poultices and the use of terniav roots in their creation. The alchemist labored over his magical flames and lab apparatus for hours, cutting into the roots and extracting the juices, testing them on injured rats, and the like. Apple watched on with interest, even participating in a few extractions and tests. Then, another alarm sounded.
"Apple! Don't you have a job to get to?"
"Oh! Yeah, I do. See ya later, Instructor."
Apple rushed out of the alchemist's lab and down to the kennels. While studying at the college, she was given the job of caring for some of the magical creatures housed there. As she was just an apprentice, this usually meant feeding the blink dog and caring for the tressym. The serious magical beasts were left for experienced caretakers. Today she got a rare treat, though, she was sent to feed the carbuncles. Carbuncles are small odd reptiles that exhibit weird magical abilities pertaining to suggestion. Apple loved them, however, because they oddly shared her love of fruit. She always brought a basket of fresh apples and they always loved her for it. On this particular day, Apple fed the three carbuncles an apple each. Suddenly, however, a rush came over her and she found herself giving them all an extra apple. She turned and left the cage perplexed. Out of the corner of her eye, she could swear she saw the mischevious reptile smile.
'Well, time to get to my secret still before I sleep'
Apple traveled just an hour's ride outside of Kalaram to a small still she had created in the forest. Although she had a bed in the dorms, she usually stayed out here by her still, working on her apple-flavored liquors. She tasted her latest creation. The apple flavor so overpowered the taste of the alcohol, she barely realized she was imbibing.
'Oh, this is going to be so popular at the school!,' she thought to herself as her mind drifted off into sleep.
All in all, a good day.
