When it comes to items in this current version of the server I've found that there's a series of things sorely lacking. I'm not sure if such is in the works at this time, but I figured I'd come with my suggestions regardless just to be sure.
Class and race specific gear with a slight edge over regular gear. Gives both an incentive for people of the classes in question to get them, but it also gives people a potential reason to go for the use magic device skill.
More items with skill bonuses. At this time I've mostly seen bonus concentration and hide and move silently as skill bonuses, I remember another version of the module had all kinds of skill bonus equipment in the vaults and because of how the crafting system was at the time they were pretty valueable.
Up until this point vault runs seems to be 90% arms and armor made for combat, and very little that emphesize on RP abilities.
TL;DR More gear variation and bonus skill points on gear.
And to add a little more to the post rather than just a request. I would personally be willing to create an entire list of possible items for you to look over and if approved, make the items and send them to you. I have been on the dev teams of a couple of servers in my time as an NWN player and have experience in balancing out items and so forth.

Already done brotha, class specific items all the way from searching around Kalaram to the vaults. Skill bonuses are a big thing as well, while ability bonuses are receiving some significant changes. Class/Alignment/Etc restrictions are going to be fairly uncommon however, and those of us with Use Magic Device will likely find solace in the scrolls and wands they find instead of the class specific gear, which I think is preferable.
While on the topic of items, i'd love to hear suggestions for items or item types that could make it into the mainstream. If you have any more suggestions for items, or anyone else does, please feel free to post here and get that idea storm brewing.

Here's some of the stuff I've come up with so far, without knowing the item table and the items planned it's pretty hard though -Silk Gloves of the Locksmith- A set of fine gloves, inlayed with threads to keep the hands steady during precision work. Class restriction: Rogue. +1 Open Lock + 1 Disable Device
-Light Oil- A special magical oil, that when used to coat an item will offer continuous light. Single use: Continual Flame.
-Healers belt of magical pouches- A belt holding a variety of pouches with herbs and salves used to cure various illnesses and wounds. +1 heal, Cure minor wounds 1/day
-Headband of the Diplomat- A headband worn by diplomats across the realm, to aid them in accomplishing their tasks. +2 Persuade, +1 Bluff. Fletcher Special Arrows.
-Holy Water Arrows- A special arrow invented by a clever fletcher after the infection started to spread. On hit: Holy Water(The granade throw)
Crafting recipe: 5 Holy water flasks 400 Crafting points - 20 arrows. -Fire Bomb Delivery System(FBDS)- Gnomes are crazy, and the inventions of Fumbernickle Roufenberg were no different. On hit: Fire Bomb(The granade throw)
Crafting recipe: 10 Alchemist fire, 600 crafting points - 5 arrows.
