History:
Robert Hawthorne was born the son of an adventurer. His father, Blake, went the way of many fighters who are over their prime. He took an arrow in the knee and opened a large crossroads inn outside of Waterdeep. His particular “arrow in the knee” was a beautiful miller’s daughter, Ginnie, who couldn’t resist the charms, stories, and gold of the renowned fighter. The two settled and opened their inn and brewery, using grains purchased from Ginnie’s family. Their families had a symbiotic relationship that proved to be quite lucrative for everyone involved.
After a year of happy marriage, Robert was born. The young boy was given a wooden toy sword for his first birthday. This became his favorite toy, much to his mother’s dismay, and his father’s enjoyment.
Blake started the kid off slow, just allowing him to swing like a wild child, and fending off the blows on the off chance that one would come close. As Robert got older however, his strikes became more and more accurate. At the age of eight, Blake decided to actually begin teaching the boy how to properly use a sword.
By twelve, his father, Blake started to notice something was different about Rob, a mark began to appear on his back. At first it looked like a large bruise between the shoulder blades, and Blake was chided by Ginnie for hurting the boy, but the blue mark didn’t go away after a few days. Instead it spread further across his back and by the time the year was out, the blue splotch had formed into the symbol of the eight pointed star and circle.
With the final forming of Mystra’s star, a message came to Blake’s doorstep in the form of a cleric of Mystra. He had been sent by divine message to seek out this boy for temple training, as he had been chosen by Mystra herself to serve Her. Robert somehow knew this would happen and calmed his own father’s objections. Going with the Cleric he began learning the divine tenants of the lady of the weave.
At the age of thirteen, Rob was sworn into service to Mystra, serving as a temple acolyte and training daily in reading, writing, and sword play. He was taught some minor magic as was the way of Mystra. Where Robert excelled though was in his sword work. He seemed to get that from his father. The years spent with a sword as part of his everyday life, helped him become more than a match for the other acolytes.
Seven arduous years of training saw Robert Hawthorne sworn in as Sir Robert, Paladin of Mystra, and Knight of the Mystic Flame. At twenty years old, Robert was sent on his first quest. He was sent by the temple, along with a small party of adventurers to seek out the Shadowstaff. An artifact that was known only through ancient texts and rumor.
What started as a small band of adventurers became somewhat famous in their endeavors, uncovering ancient caches of magical equipment, as well as freeing towns and villages from local menaces all while they tracked down rumor after rumor, leading them some five years later, to their discovery and destruction of The Shadowstaff.
Robert, twenty-five years old by this point, was congratulated and inducted into the Harpers. He served the harpers well for three years, until the Sirandan plague reached the mainland shores. Robert was sent with a contingent of Harpers to the isle of Siranda, where they established a base of operations and are finding that the plague is worse than they feared…
