We'll be posting background here on the current lore of the server. Currently this is a lore post, but in the future it will be an assembly of links to other lore posts.
Mainland Faerun
1367 DR
It has been five years since the dead rose on Siranda. During that time, the world has passed the island by. Any boats that sailed for the island never returned - sailors took to skirting the cursed island. The disappearance of trading merchants was a cause for concern among the larger cities of the Sword Coast; but then again, Trackless Sea was never a safe place. The coastal cities had larger problems: orc raids, piracy, and dragon rampages. Siranda was left to its fate.
Over time, whispers spread the Heartlands about Siranda’s disaster; a plague, an invasion, a tsunami, each tale taller than the last. Foolish folk spoke of the riches in Siranda’s dragonburnt cities, ready to be pried from the sickly survivors, or stolen from the new lizardfolk rulers. Despite the wild and untrue stories, the gullible adventurers who set out for the island were unprepared for the scope of Siranda’s nightmare. They drowned, they were torn apart, they rose as undead. Only a lucky few lived - joining the survivors or hiding out on their own.
It’s uncertain how anyone managed to escape to tell Siranda’s true tale; how they fled the undead and the precarious currents to make it to the safety of the mainland. But as the rumors spread along the Shining Sea and Lake of Steam of the island’s zombie curse, the plague escaped the island’s orbit. Tethyr has battled the undead for since the turn of the year, the dead arising along the coast in fits and spurts. The cities of the Lord’s Alliance have been slow to act, deliberating until it was too late. In the past weeks, the plague has leapt up the coast into Waterdeep and many cities have barred themselves from the outside world lest they be next.
Only of late have the powerful mainland alliances learnt of the curses’ Sirandan origins. Mercenary bands, Harpers, and Zhent have set out for the island - each with their own ulterior motive. Only time will tell what role these mainlanders will play in the struggle for the fate of Siranda.
