If you really insist on scavenging over, and over, and over - farming enough materials to build a goddamn castle. Please don't leave all your garbage laying around. I'm not entirely sure what effect it has on the server - likely minimal, but it takes away from the experience to find a room crammed full of flint cause it was deemed useless by the Farmer. So yeah, just a friendly reminder that there's a trash can in the Desolation.

I agree with this, entirely. Littering can also severely bog down the module and cause lag. Not to mention how annoying it can be when an entire area is filled with random crap laying on the ground.

I will assure you; that those flints being there was not littering, and an entirely IC endeavor of a demented halfling <3 (The flint wasn't from around there, when they began their long journey). Apologies if that was confusing XD.

Sounds like a case for a garbage collecting script. Does anyone have any thoughts and opinions pro / against automated garbage collecting for wayward objects?

As a negative sometimes you might want to leave something around IE: a dm running a plot might have something just lying there baiting a big trap; also some items are supposed to have misc. items around, like a knife or a sheet of paper and the like. Players also might want to drop a few items on the ground to have other people to run into cuz that's their 'thing'.
On the bright side. Less 'concern' about it lagging the server; though in the past I've found that rather negligible even with very large amounts of items

The amount it lags a server is also generally based around the host computer/connection. It doesn't seem to lag much when it comes to a server being hosted on a high-speed dedicated network, for instance. Though, often times, I've noticed it can bog down a server when it's being hosted from a home computer or similar, which is what the server is currently on.
As for a garbage collection script, I'd be all for such a thing. If a DM reeeeaally needs to make a bait or something, they can always use a small selectable placeable with a name that explains the bait. Or, often times, it'll just be explained as being there, if it's in an event. If garbage collection really becomes an issue, it could always be set to having a decent length between when the script triggers.

Garbage collection scripts have, in my experience, been absolutely nothing but a nuisance. Back when I DM'd on some other servers with 'em, I got complaints about 'em and/or requests to get items back on a weekly basis, if not moreso.
With a garbage collection script, if you've got a full inventory and loot something (which will start happening when people accumulate more and more stuff), it's goin' on the floor, and getting deleted as a result. Or you drop something by accident, or you want to place something on the floor/table for roleplay... All of that becomes not only impossible, but oftentimes can destroy the item in question.
Unless it becomes a consistent issue due to lag (which it's not, as far as I know) or excessive clutter (which, barring some exceptions, it's not been), I'd strongly recommend against it for everyone's sakes.
But seriously, use the garbage cans - Valsér is convinced Kalaram survivors eat flint.

AFTER AN EXTENSIVE REVIEW, fuck garbage collection scripts. Be righteous to the server or it will cry.
